Stephen Porter focuses his practice on representing businesses, individuals, insurers, and agents in both transactions and litigation. Stephen often provides coverage opinions and performs litigation for insurance companies and insurance consumers. Stephen has extensive experience in assisting businesses and individuals throughout the southeastern United States navigate the world of insurance.

Prior to joining Rogers Lewis, Stephen practiced at Nelson Mullins Riley and Scarborough LLP, Leatherwood Walker Todd & Mann LLP, and Ellis Lawhorne & Sims, P.A. He also owned and operated an insurance agency in Columbia, SC for eight years prior to selling the company, and he gained significant business and management experience. Stephen attended the University of South Carolina, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Insurance and Risk Management. He earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law. While attending law school, Stephen served on the Editorial staff of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Journal.

Stephen is active in his hometown of Columbia, SC. He has been a Board Member for the Richland County Board of Assessment Appeals since 2009, participating as Chairman of the Board since 2010. Stephen also serves on the Board of Directors for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Palmetto Chapter, helping to raise awareness of, and funds for, the treatment, cure and prevention of Type One Diabetes. In addition, Stephen participates in fundraising committee activities for the Boy Scouts of America and the Ducks Unlimited Granders organizations. Stephen and his family are members of Eastminster Presbyterian Church.In his spare time, Stephen enjoys spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing, playing sports and watching the Gamecocks.
